Thank you Marie Antoinette...
or words supposedly spoken by "a great princess" upon learning that the peasants had no bread. Apparently Miss Antoinette didn't actually utter these words during the French Revolution. She actually said something like "let them eat Brioche!"

And so like everything else that gets altered and weaves a different path as years pass, this is where we have arrived. It's all about cake.

Well today is my good friends birthday. We live miles apart but I feel her spirit and we talk all the time. So I decided to throw a private party for her and bake her a cake. The inspiration was this picture......

I invited a few very cool people who I know she would love to visit with. One of them I ran into at Value Village. Go figure.

Charlie was in attendance of course. He lives with me and attends all parties.

Next guest was this girl who is kind of like "That Girl" and apparently is suppose to be me I was told. "A gift."

Also, Giselle and she reminds me of Claudie. Pretty thing.

And Audrey, thank goodness you could make it.

And Big Surprise..... Edith Piaff! The French Singer. I couldn't believe I ran into her at Value Village. She agreed to sing at the party. She was so flattered when I mentioned that Claudie and I had just been listening to her in the car on the way to Montreal last February. It's such a small world really isn't it.

The girls were so patient while I worked on the cake.

And made paper flower decorations for the table.

Put the pink tulips in water and shined the silverware, then set out the napkins.

They didn't know that Claudie always wanted to be a dancer, or that she loves pink and that she speaks french and that she is in love with Tiffany's too.

There was so much to discuss.
The cake was finally finished.

And Charlie ( who doesn't worry about his waistline like the rest of the girls) was ready for a treat.

I gave him some dog biscuits with icing on top to try to fool him but his eyes work better than I thought and he saw the bigger prize.

So we lit the candle, considered making wishes for Claudie and sang Happy Birthday of course.

Then we cut the cake and announced 'LET THEM EAT CAKE'. The Princess opened her gifts and then fell fast asleep in a mass of tissue paper and ribbon with a tummy full of goodies.

We hope she had a wonderful birthday and that our spirit and celebration travel all the way to her house and into her heart.

Happy Birthday Claudette. Love ya honey.

The End.

What do you think about just before you fall asleep at night?

When you crawl into bed and take that big deep breath because it feels so good to just STOP for a few minutes.

Do your feet say thank you for getting off them?

Do you worry about something you saw on the news?

Do you think about people and wonder what everyone is doing these days?

Do you think about that exam you have to write tomorrow?

Do you think about what to make for your kids for thier lunches tomorrow?

Do you worry that you will be late for work in the morning and the boss will get annoyed?

Do you think about your friends birthday? And think about how I wish I could give her this for her place !

This is interesting. Are you left or right brained? How do you think? Which way do you lean? Is that why you think like you do? Is there really a dominant side?

If you are Left brain: Then say to yourself - I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.
If you are Right brain: Then say this to yourself - "I am the right brain. I am creativity. A free spirit. I am passion. Yearning. Sensuality. I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand beneath bare feat. I am movement. Vivid colors. I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas. I am boundless imagination. Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything I wanted to be.

I am so Right Brain. That's why everything in my brain turns into one gigantic Abstract painting. You are Left brain you say and you don't know what I am talking about? Let me try to show you........... these are examples of abstract art. That's what happens when too much goes on in a Right Brain.

I really like the bottom one actually. There I am in the middle of my mind. Looking around at it all. I see I have an umbrella because it is probably going to rain and all the colors of my ideas are going to run together. Thats called procrastination!

I wonder what (in pictures) a left brain looks like? If you are a left brain. Send me some pictures to help me understand how you work. I am interested.

And lastly what else do I think about before I fall asleep? Blogging apparently. And that is why I am not quite asleep.

Sunday afternoon at the movies.....

on a rainy day, at home, when you have nowhere special you need to be. That's the best movie theatre in town.

This movie was a surprise find in a bin of inexpensive movies at the grocery store. It is now in my pile of "fav's". This one for being one of the most romantic films I have seen in a long time. It is a story of a man who believed he was the world's greatest lover. Johnny Depp plays Don Juan DeMarcos, Marlon Brando plays a psychiatrist and Faye Dunaway is the psychiatrists wife. Johnny Depps incurable romantisicm is found to be contagious. And really what is the harm of living in a dreamworld? Or is it real. The movie will compell you to believe in him and I think that is a message to us in this world. ( I love secret messages)

It is an intriguing story of a mask, a life, women, and romance.

There is 1 woman who he yearns for - and who is worthy of dying for. But there is much to the story.

It draws you in, and makes you think about realtionships and loving and how you can affect other people.

Here are some quotes from the story:

Don Juan: Every true lover knows that the moment of greatest satisfaction comes when ecstasy is long over and he beholds before him the flower which has blossomed beneath his touch.

Don Juan: Every woman is a mystery to be solved.

Don Juan: By seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it's true. When I say that all my woman are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the-the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are... glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect, because, I am not limited by my eyesight. Women react to me the way that they do, Don Octavio, because they sense that I search out the beauty that dwells within until it overwhelms everything else. And then they cannot avoid their desire, to release that beauty and envelope me in it.

Don Juan: No woman has ever left my arms unsatisfied

Now I am no Siskel & Ebert... but I know I liked this movie. If you are an incurable romantic. You will love it too and I don't think there is any man who wouldn't pick up a few tips from this one either.

My rating: Ah, let's watch it again tomorrow.
